Sam Allardyce believes Trent Alexander-Arnold should consider a return to Liverpool if he can’t nail down regular minutes at Real Madrid, where his role remains uncertain following Denzel Dumfries’ arrival and an experimental midfield stint under Jose Mourinho.
“If he is going to be a Real Madrid player then this season he needs to be playing more than ever — if not, he should come back to the Premier League,” Allardyce said on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast. “Liverpool could do with him back.”
Allardyce defended the 27-year-old’s much-criticized defending, arguing he’s “not much worse than most other full-backs,” while praising his passing range as a “massive asset” — pointing to his recent England recall by Thomas Tuchel after missing out on the World Cup.
